雷克斯收藏芬蘭SUVASVESI TWIN隕石坑-震裂錐標本

BEAUTIFUL SHATTER CONE INDIVIDUALS FROM THE SUVASVESI  SOUTH IMPACT STRUCTURE LOCATED IN SOUTH-EASTERN FINLAND. COORDINATES: 62.40 N / 28.20 E

THE SUVASVESI - SOUTH AND SUVASVESI - NORTH IMPACT STRUCTURES ARE NEXT TO EACH OTHERS WITHIN AN OPEN LAKE AND ARE FORMING A CRATER DOUBLET LIKE CLEARWATER LAKES IN CANADA OR RIES -STEINHEIM STRUCTURES IN GERMANY.

BOTH STRUCTURES ARE OF THE SAME AGE APPROX. 240-780 MILLION YEARS.

THE DIAMETER OF THE SUVASVESI-SOUTH STRUCTURE IS ABOUT 3.8 KM.

SHATTER CONES ARE PRODUCED WHEN IMPACT SHOCK WAVE WITH pressures OF ABOUT 2 GPa  TO 30 GPa  PASSES THE TAGRGET ROCK DEEP BELOW THE POINT OF IMPACT.

SHATTER cones have proven to be a reliable field criterion for identifying and studying impact structures. sHATTER CONES are generally accepted as unique indicators of shock pressures and meteorite impact.

NICE DISPLAY PIECE CLEARLY SHOWING THE TYPICAL HORSETAILING SURFACE STRUCTURE WELL DEMONSTRATING THE SHOCK WAVE'S INFLUENCE ON TERRESTRICAL ROCK OF THE TARGET AREA.
